History
The company was originally founded in 1901 by John Thomas Featherstone M.B.E with the aim of supplying the people of Medway with clothes and other necessities on credit with no interest charged which was somewhat revolutionary for the time.
In 1981, the company began a change of direction. Retail operations were gradually closed down and the Directors concentrated on letting property initially to specialist retailers but later including a mixture of small industrial and office businesses.
Family-run enterprise
Working closely with the Council and a sponsored Enterprise Agency, the company could cater for small businesses often set up with Government grant assistance.
The company has seen many changes, but after more than 100 years it is still to this day a family-run enterprise. Our principal area of trading has always been the Medway Towns but we also have operations in Sheerness and Gravesend.
Firmly focused
We at Featherstones have never lost sight of the inspiration of our founder, and today the company is still firmly focused on catering for the individual needs of smaller businesses and actively encourages local enterprise by providing office and retail space in the Medway Towns. We believe that the spirit of John Thomas Featherstone M.B.E continues to live on in our operations today.
